About Dupont

Third generation producer from the top region. Dupont is a family firm who are situated in the top calvados producing region known as Pays d’Auge. It is owned by the family and currently run by Etienne Dupont who took over from his father Louis and previous to that, his grandfather Jules Dupont. They have 27 hectares of orchards producing more than 6000 apple trees. Etienne studied distillation in Cognac.

Details

Dupont are probably the finest traditional calvados producer in Normandy. We believe that calvados younger than about 8 years old is best used in cooking but this 12 year old blend is a fine example of their understanding of this fine spirit.

Additional Information

Aroma Currants and pears, vanilla and apple, some toffee but also drier walnut tones. Fresh aroma
Distillation Cidre distilled in the same manner as cognac
Flavour Slightly rounder and richer flavour to the vintages. The pear is apparent but not overbearing and does not hide a wonderful balance developed from good distilling and the natural ageing process. This calvados has a rounder balance than other similar vintages
Grape Variety Not a grape but Cidre made from apples and perry pear. The bitter/sweet apples are mainly picked and crushed in a membrane press to get the flavour from the skins. There are several varieties including Saint Martin, Noel des Champs, Mettais and Doux Normandie. The apples are small with high aromatic intensity
Viticulture Rich and fertile land
