About Hermitage Chez Richon
Tremendous complexity and flavour. These complex cognacs are distilled on small narrow stills enabling greater fruitiness from the wines to be found in the cognac. Flavours of pineapple syrup, walnuts and spices are all in abundance

Cognac Masters 2009 - Gold Award
Making cognacs suitable for drinking young is exceptionally difficult without the use of caramel and sugar syrup. The 2000 has succeeded where others have failed. Its style is consistent with others from Chez Richon with some pineapple, burnt almonds and mocha, a delight for such youthfulness.
Additional Information
| Aroma | Roasted walnuts and some toffee and coffee flavours, a little pepper with oak and spices |
|---|---|
| Distillation | Small estate and well known family in the area. Distillation is on a small still with a relatively straight sided still head which minimizes rectification. This together with a fairly heavy lees enables maximum wine flavours. The producer does not have to rely on negociant sales so has been able to concentrate on his own style |
| Flavour | The complex flavour of toffee, mocha and oak is dominant but there is also a deep complexity of spices and herbs. A remarkable young cognac |
| Grape Variety | Mainly Ugni Blanc but some Folle Blanche is also known to be available and used in this cognac |
| Reduction and Strength | This cognac is reduced in strength and matured in newer casks with some added wood chips to increase the reaction of wood with the natural tannins. Reduction at this level takes nearly two years to complete |
| Viticulture | The soil here is flatter than that around Segonzac and the Coniacian chalk is similar to that on which the town of Cognac is built. The weather here is at its most even with only nominal extremes of hot and cold and low rain fall. Vines are Ugni Blanc and Folle Blanche |
