About J P Marniquet

Made from the famous noble grape varieties of Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay, according to the ancient " méthode champenoise " invented by the monk Dom Perignon, the family developed its independance. A solid foundation was created, passed down from grandfather to father and now to son, Jean-Pierre.

Champagne J.P Marniquet is now in its third generation of winemakers and was established in 1929. At that time many winegrowers, " viticulturalist ", would sell their grapes on to the " Grandes Marques " champagne makers. After a few years of a slump in sales and very low market prices, some growers including Pierre Coutelas  grandfather of Jean Pierre, decided to have a go at making their own wine.

The Marniquet vineyard is located in Venteuil, a village on the chalkly slopes of the Marne Valley’s right bank, 10 km west of Epernay which lent itself perfectly to the venture. A solid foundation was created and has been passed down from grandfather to father and now to son, Jean-Pierre.

In 1974, in keeping with this philosophy, Jean-Pierre decided to increase the area of the vineyard over several years from 2 to 7 hectares. By choosing carefully the allocation of grape varieties, it has been possible to develop a range of wines that are both complementary and varied.

By building new cellars and acquiring a magnificent chalk quarry, it has been possible to bring together traditional wine making using new and modern techniques. Choosing to avoid malolactique fermentation during the wine making process has given the wine a very individual character; " a full nose followed by a refreshing burst on the palate and a long smooth finish ".

During the fermentation in bottle at the constant temperature of 10 degrees, a delicate mousse is created giving the most essential characteristic of Champagne.
