International Wine & Spirits Competition 2016 - Gold Medal
You have to imagine the smell as a child, coming home from school just as granny is taking a fruit cake out of the oven, this calvados is full of sultana and baked apple aromas and a rich baked apple taste. It is made from 80% fallen apples that have a higher sugar content.
|Aroma||Fruit cake and sultanas.|
|Distillation||Cidre distilled in the same manner as cognac|
|Flavour||Very rich, the fruit cake aroma is enhanced with baked toffee apple, vanilla and a hint of pear also comes through.|
|Grape Variety||Not a grape but cidre made from apples and perry pear. The apples come from 5 different varieties, 20% are picked and the rest are allowed to start dropping, thus allowing maximum sugar content. There is 12% pear added.|
|Viticulture||The mild and damp weather and clayed soil of the Pays d'Auge give the Château du Breuil ideal growing conditions for its 22,000 apple trees which surround the castle.|
