We were lucky to find this wonderful cognac available for bottling as a replacement for our award-winning 1999 vintage which has nearly run out. The 1995 comes from the same distillery but has aged for a longer period, enabling a greater complexity of flavours. This is a rich and beautifully finished cognac fit for a king.

- Aroma:
- Delightful rich aromas of butterscotch, cocoa, cloves and brazil nuts.
- Ageing:
- 350 litre casks, 6 to 8 months in new and then old Limousin casks. Cellars are medium damp with natural floors.
- Distillation:
- Small estate and well known family in the area. Distillation is on a small still with a relatively straight sided still head which minimizes rectification. This together with a fairly heavy lees enables maximum wine flavours. The producer does not have to rely on negoçiant sales so has been able to concentrate on his own style.
- Flavour:
- Remarkably mature with flavours of butterscotch, walnuts, biscuits and baked apple peel. Finishing tones of mandarin peel and damson.
- Grape Variety:
- Mainly Ugni Blanc but some Folle Blanche is also known to be available and used in this cognac.
- Reduction & Strength:
- This cognac is reduced in strength and matured in newer casks with some added wood chips to increase the reaction of wood with the natural tannins. Reduction at this level takes nearly two years to complete .
- Viticulture:
- The soil here is flatter than that around Segonzac and the Coniaçian chalk is similar to that on which the town of Cognac is built. The weather here is at its most even with only nominal extremes of hot and cold and low rain fall.
