Another wonderful vintage from the Chez Richon stills, this cognac is still in cask and maturing all the time. Traditional flavours of mocha and toffee are accompanied by butterscotch and sweet spices to delight your palate. As our award-winning 2005 vintage is down to the last few bottles, we are pleased to have found this 2010 as a worthy replacement.

Additional Information

Aroma:
Butterscotch, lychee and toffee
Ageing:
350 litre casks, 6 to 8 months in new and then old Limousin casks. Cellars are medium damp with natural floors.
Distillation:
Distillation is on a 25hl still with an inverted tulip shaped head. Fairly heavy lees help to provide more wine flavours in the spirit. The producer does not have to rely on negoçiant sales so has been able to concentrate on his own style
Flavour:
Initial mocha on the palate leads to toffee and spices such as mace with apricot and mandarin on the finish. A young cognac with the very essence of greatness.
Grape Variety:
Mainly Ugni Blanc but some Folle Blanche is also known to be available and used in this cognac.
Reduction & Strength:
This cognac is reduced in strength and matured in newer casks with some added wood chips to increase the reaction of wood with the natural tannins. Reduction at this level takes nearly two years to complete .
Viticulture:
The soil here is flatter than that around Segonzac and the Coniaçian chalk is similar to that on which the town of Cognac is built. The weather here is at its most even with only nominal extremes of hot and cold and low rain fall. Vines are Ugni Blanc and Folle Blanche.
