  1. Hermitage Cognac Marie Louise Crystal Decanter

Cognac Masters 2018 - Masters Award

Hermitage Cognac Marie Louise is a 60-year-old Grande Champagne from one of the region's top artisan producers. It is offered in a limited first run of 50 decanters produced by Cumbria Crystal, the last producer of completely hand-blown and hand-cut, full-lead luxury English crystal in the UK. The complex aromas, intensity and depth of flavours created by its careful distillation and ageing have created a masterpiece of smoothness and an intensely rich rancio found only in the rarest of cognacs. This truly great cognac is named after Marie Louise, the second wife of Napoleon Bonaparte. She bore his son who was given the title 'Roi de Rome' and who later became Napoleon II.

"Likely to be one of the finest cognacs you have tasted."  Victoria Moore, The Saturday Telegraph Luxury supplement, December 2017

  2. Castarède 1965 Bas Armagnac

Florence Castarede does not distil her own armagnacs and her style is probably best found in this vintage. Crystalised fruits, almonds and pecan nuts all combine to provide a style that Castarede has characterised in most of its vintages. Distillation of these armagnacs is at around 60 degrees which accounts for the drier fruit flavours and use of the Baco and Folle Blanche grapes.

    Aroma:
Aroma: Prune is the aroma that you first notice but there is also some bay, nutmeg and candied fruit.
    Flavour:
Flavour: Richer than some of Florence Castarede's armagnacs. This is much more nutty and has some toffee and roasted walnut flavours.
