70th Anniversary Gifts

A seventieth anniversary is a wonderful cause for celebration and as with all big celebrations, there will no doubt be 70th anniversary gifts aplenty. Celebrating an anniversary is special whatever the milestone but if you're looking for some 70th anniversary present ideas to really make the occasion special, we have a selection of vintage brandies from which to choose. Whether it’s a wedding anniversary, work anniversary or just a special milestone, we have the perfect present for the brandy connoisseur. It's not always easy to find something special enough but our vintage brandies are hand-picked, delicious and very rare. We specialise in vintage cognacs, vintage armagnacs and vintage calvados; their ageing processes have been tightly controlled so you can be sure that you are buying brandies of exceptional quality and flavour. They have either been aged in the barrel for 70 years or harvested 70 years ago in the year designated on the label. Those celebrating 70 this year started out after World War II, in 1949. It was a year when World Order began to change. The Berlin Blockade officially ended and The North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) was established. The Geneva Convention was agreed and Mao Tse Tung proclaimed the Communist People’s Republic of China. Away from the political scene George Orwell wrote Nineteen Eighty-four and in the US, the National Basketball Association (NBA) was formed and Captain James Gallagher, in a Boeing B-50, completed the world’s first non-stop circumnavigation flight around the world, starting and finishing in Texas. Also celebrating becoming a septuagenarian this year are Meryl Streep, Larry Holmes and Bruce Springsteen so the occasion will be in very good company!

  2. Delord 1949 Bas Armagnac

One of the great difficulties with good armagnac is that when it gets old it also gets scarce. There is very little of any old vintages left now and this is no exception.

    Aroma:
Aroma: Delicate aromas of orange, toffee, vanilla and almonds.
    Flavour:
Flavour: Full and well balanced with flavours dominated by vanilla and a hint of underwood. A long and intense finish.

  3. Hermitage 70 Year Old Grande Champagne Cognac

It is rare to find a cognac that has aged for this long in oak barrels. Long ageing is a sign of maturity as it allows the alcohol to react with the wood tannins and esters providing a much sought after condition known as “rancio” a type of madeiraisation or enrichening of the cognac.

    Aroma:
Aroma: There is a rich but musty aroma with mushrooms, leather and roasted walnuts
    Flavour:
Flavour: Intense mushroom, roasted nut and a range of other flavours including dry spice, leather, tobacco and oaky qualities
